PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Dear Parents and Students,

December’s newsletter marks another year that has passed. It is sad to see our graduates leave, but I’m excited for them as they start the next phase of their lives.

At the moment we are busily completing marking and reporting, as well as closing down our finances. My Deputies are analysing the 2018 timetable and creating new Year 7 classes.

I would like to take this opportunity to say good-bye to some staff who are leaving. Ms Sue McDermott has been transferred to Charleville SHS and we thank her for the time and energy she has put into training teachers in Reading to Learn.

Mr Nate Brown has the opportunity to go west to Goondiwindi SS as a Guidance Officer. Our school wishes him all the best in this new position.

Ms Lisha Badcock, our school Chaplain, has had the calling to enrol into a nursing course at the University of Sunshine Coast. Thank you, Lisha, for everything you have done for our students. Good luck with your studies.

Ms Kerry Jones is retiring early next year. Kerry has led our Visual Arts Department for over two decades and is responsible for many creative pieces of art. Thank you for inspiring a love of visual art for so many students.

Mr Brad Williams is also retiring early next year. Brad has had a passion for bringing sporting and recreational facilities to Maleny. As President of MIACC for many years, he was part of the committee responsible for facilitating the building our hall, Waroo, as well as the long and triple jump tracks. He saw the relocation of Little A’s to our school and lastly, oversaw the construction of the netball courts. What a wonderful legacy Brad has left this school and the Maleny Community. Thank You!

Lastly, we say farewell to our Junior Secondary and Arts HOD Ms Cath Gray. Her family is moving to Brisbane for work and education opportunities. Cath, has been a valuable asset to the school. She has served as State Panellist for dance and has been a writer for the dance syllabus for the new senior system. She also oversaw the introduction of our junior secondary program with our new cohort of Year 7s. Thank you Cath and we wish you and your family the best of luck.

It’s difficult to put into words what Maleny has accomplished in 2017. I can list all our academic achievements, but there is so much more to Maleny than just results. It’s these intangible qualities that make Maleny a unique place to come to.

I wish all my families a safe and happy holiday. Merry Christmas to one and all.

Warm Regards,
Deborah Stewart
Principal
